This will be a 5 hour workshop which at completion the student will have a frameable fall leaf/ forest floor painting. Students should be familiar with watercolours and have either taken a Basic Water Colour Course or have experience in the medium.

About the event
This will be a 5 hour workshop which at completion the student will have a frameable fall leaf/ forest floor painting. Students should be familiar with watercolours and have either taken a Basic Water Colour Course or have experience in the medium. Focus in this course will be leaf structure, veins, stems, fall colours and shadows. Watercolour paper, Reference photo(s) and line drawing & transfer paper will be provided.
Supplies:
1/4 sheet of 140 lb cold press watercolour paper ( will be provided)
Scrap piece of 140 watercolour paper for colour 'testing'
Reference photos of leaves or forest floor
Board to mount paper on, masking tape
Brushes: 1/2" flat, # 6 or #8 round, # 14 Or Larger round, script or liner brush
Pencil, white eraser
2 good sized containers for water (not plastic cups), empty sour cream/cottage cheese containers work well
Paper towels, soft old towel
Paints: bring a range of yellows, browns, greens and reds (what you have) PLUS, indigo, Paynes grey OR neutral tint, burnt Sienna , raw umber
Large palette for making large mixes OR old white ceramic plate (not paper or foam plates)
Hand held hair dryer if you have one to assist in drying
Morning:
Determine arrangement of painting and colour choices based on your existing palette
Transfer reference to watercolour paper
Blocking in of base colours
Afternoon:
Continue to build colours, develop veins and stems
Develop shadowing (with glazing) and background ( for depth) moving the painting to completion.
